Through Sunshine and Shadow
45” x 54”

Commercial cottons.  Machine pieced and hand quilted.

Made for the Discover America contest sponsored by the Museum of American Folk Art.  My America is rural, and I have a fondness for old barns.

They are rapidly falling into disrepair around the countryside, and I sought to preserve six of them in this quilt.  They represent different areas of the country.

They are set with a Sunshine and Shadows background, to represent the American farmer who is often at the mercy of the weather and other conditions.  He prevails "through sunshine and shadow", good times and bad.
