This Old House: It’s Not All There Is
65” x 78”
Commercial and hand dyed cottons. Machine pieced and quilted. Two-sided quilt.
While on vacation in South Dakota, I took a picture of an old set of buildings that were well weathered, but structurally sound. My thought was that someday the scene would make a nice quilt.
Just over a year later, my husband died suddenly. I still had not started the quilt, and it took a couple of years for the entire quilt to gel in my mind.
The front of the quilt, the old house, represents our earthly life, with its troubles and sometimes gray days, though there is a suggestion of hope in the sunset colors appearing periodically in the sky.
The back of the quilt represents our home in heaven. Though it was made in memory of Don, it is also a quilt of hope, looking forward to the time I shall join him and our Lord on the other side.
